Easy Summer Makeup with CoverGirl + Giveaway

Fun fact: CoverGirl was the first makeup brand I used as a teen. My mom bought me CoverGirl’s compact foundation. I remember feeling soooo cool as I pulled out that marbled green compact from my backpack in English class.

Fast forward to 2015: I’m turning thirty in August (eek!) and here I am using the same product. Amazing how things come full circle. I created this easy summer look with products courtesy of Walmart and P&G. Walmart is a great source for summer beauty on a budget. I want you to get your makeup fix, too, so P&G is providing a $25 Walmart gift card to one lucky reader! Read the end of this post to find out how to win.

After applying my face makeup, I gently patted and blended CoverGirl CG Smoothers Pressed Powder on my T-Zone. Oh man, I felt such nostalgia as I opened up the compact. I placed the translucent powder on my t-zone to help minimize shine throughout the day.

I concentrated CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner Pencil in Midnight Blue on the outer corner of the lash line and slightly winged it out. I love this shade of blue! It's a great alternative to black liner. It's sultry and bold without being too bright. I also lined my lower lash line and softened it with the smudger tip of the pencil.

CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara is a hypoallergenic, volumizing mascara. With the help of the big brush, I coated all my lashes. After three coats, my lashes were long and voluminous.

I hope you enjoyed this makeup look! Whether you want to do a full face of makeup or simply stick to mascara with a little color on lash line, creating a summertime look with CoverGirl staples is easy and affordable. I plan to film a step-by-step tutorial featuring this makeup later this week; be on the look out for that soon. As always, thanks for reading and good luck with the giveaway! xx

Happy summer! I hope you’re having a good one so far. To celebrate summer lovin’, maurices sent me a gift box filled with some pretty awesome stuff. I received this chevron stripe dress, a gray handbag, eos mint lip balm, tortoise and teal sunnies, and a mason jar bottle. Can I tell you how happy that mason jar bottle made me feel? I adore the other items, but I have a sick obsession with reusable water bottles. You should see one of the cabinets in our kitchen. There’s at least ten of them in there. Aaanyway, back to the fashion...

This dress is so sweet (and it's on sale)! It has a playful vibe, classic color combo, and chevron stripes. I’m wearing the 3X (size 24/26). Aside from the dress riding up under “the girls," it fits well everywhere else because of the soft, stretchy fabric. This is definitely a silhouette that will look great on every body shape. P.S. These photos were taken at A Secret Garden in Old Town Clovis. It's a beautiful, eclectic place. Check it out if you're ever in the California Central Valley.

Skating Around Downtown

Last weekend I went to #VintagePopUp in downtown Fresno. It's a super chill monthly event sponsored by Raizana Tea and Misc. Trading Co. Local vendors set up shop to sell vintage items, crafts, art, and food along the historic Warners Theatre. It happens when the sun starts going down, which makes the best lighting for photos. Hence, this outfit post!

I purchased this vintage Lancel bag at July's Vintage PopUp. I paired it with my well-loved Mynt 1792 chambray shirt and Rebdolls midi skater skirt. This skirt is awesome. It has an elastic waistband and the most beautiful flared silhouette and drape. Oh! And pockets. It has pockets. If that isn't a win, I don't know what is.

See you again soon with another outfit post. Until next time: love yourself, stay fashionable, and shop local. <3

#MandyTurnsThirty

Well, it's over. I am no longer a twenty-something. As of August 23, 2015, your girl is thirty. I'm trying not to be too dramatic about it (see: this post I wrote about turning twenty-five). So far, thirty is good! I rang in my birthday with friends at Tioga Sequoia Beer Garden in downtown Fresno and Vinis in the Tower District. Craft beers were consumed and twirls were made in my Modamix polka dot skirt courtesy of Dia&Co.

I wish I had my DSLR with me that night to show the skirt in all its glory. It really is adorable and retro. Unfortunately my camera didn't fit in my clutch, so these iPhone photos will have to do. I'm going to Bass Lake this weekend with my family to continue the #mandyturnsthirty celebration. I'll take my camera so I can share the awesome scenery with you next week. Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. Y'all are the sweetest. <3

My Catherines Denim Debut

I love denim. I live in it pretty much every day of the week. I don't shop for it often because it can be an exhausting, draining experience. Yup, that means I'm one of those girls that will wear their jeans until it is no longer physically possible, holes, rips, and all. Luckily, trying Catherines denim was one of the easiest and most enjoyable try-ons I've had in a while.

I partnered with them to share their fall #denimdebut on Instagram and Twitter. I couldn't keep all the fun on social, so here it is on the blog! This is my look featuring the Knit Jean. The jeans are made from a soft, stretchy french terry fabric with an elastic waistband. The fit really surprised me. This is not a low-rise jean (yay for not pulling your jeans up every five minutes) and there is no gaping in the back.

As a Catherines denim first-timer, I ordered a 3X since I usually wear a 26 in denim. The 3X was too big in the thighs and legs. I'm so glad I exchanged them for the 2X because it is a much better fit. Oh, and this style is available in petite. *high five to all my fellow short girls* I paired the Knit Jean with a plaid cascade cardigan and scoopneck tank. I rolled up the cuffs and wore nude flats and a velvet matte red lip to make it a casual yet put-together weekend outfit for fall.

Maurices Perfect Blouse

maurices and I have teamed up to share The Perfect Blouse. I am wearing The Perfect Blouse in Diamond Pattern in a size 4. I love, love, love the color of this top. It is a rich teal that is just right for fall and winter. The blouse is sheer, so wear a cami underneath if you want more coverage.

I am very impressed with the fit. All the buttons close over my stomach and the sleeves are roomy. It is rare to achieve one of those in a button up in my size; to achieve both is a total win. There is some gaping between buttons while sitting, but fashion tape can easily fix that. The blouse is made from a lightweight chiffon fabric, which makes it easy to wear with more layers as the weather gets colder. I have a feeling this top will be a go-to for me this season. I am already thinking of more ways to wear it.

maurices is giving away a blouse a day on maurices.com! Click here to enter The Perfect Blouse-A-Day Giveaway every day until October 12, 2015 for a chance to win your perfect blouse.

My First Time Wearing ModCloth

I am so excited to tell you about this dress. It's my first piece from ModCloth! I know, I know, I am reeeeeally late to the game. My friends have worn the vintage-inspired clothing retailer for years. I never took the plunge because it was not a go-to website for me. After trying on this dress and experiencing their awesome customer service, I think that is about to change.

When ModCloth asked if I would like to review an item from their new namesake label, I quickly replied yes because many of you have requested to see them on my blog/channel. Sooo, here we go! This is the ModCloth Presentation Perfection Dress in size 4X. Since I have never worn the brand before, I used the size chart and customer reviews as references.

The fit is excellent. The 3/4 sleeves have plenty of give and the high-waisted pleated skirt moves beautifully. The dress is fully lined and made from a very stretchy, textured knit fabric. The belt that came with the dress did not fit, so I substituted it with an old ASOS Curve belt. The neckline, royal blue color, and length are my favorite parts of the dress. The three are a nice mix of ladylike, fun, and flirty. After a full day of wear, the dress kept its shape without any wrinkles, aaaaaand I may or may not have added more items to my ModCloth shopping bag.

Holiday Celebration Style with Maurices

Happy holidays, guys! One of my favorite things to do this time of year is cook and bake. From tamales to pies and cookies, I love spending time in the kitchen making food for family and friends. Over the last few years, I developed a fascination for gingerbread houses. It's weird because I am not a fan of the taste of gingerbread, but I love the smell and all of the amazing ways it is used. The BF and I decorated our first gingerbread house together about five years ago. This year we visited the Children Services Network's Gingerbread Wonderland at Sierra Vista Mall in Clovis to decorate a fresh, locally made gingerbread house by Chef Caroline.

Last week maurices graciously sent me a gift box to celebrate the holidays in style. After seeing all of the cute goodies inside of it, I knew they would create a fun look for gingerbread house decorating. I love a good sweater dress, and this one is no exception. The chevron stripe sweater dress is soooo cozy, like cozy to the point where I did not want to take it off. The soft knitted fabric makes it incredibly comfy and stretchy. Bonus: it comes with a slip lining. That was a pleasant surprise because I did not have to layer a tank underneath it (something I do with almost everything I wear this time of year). For additional all-day comfort, I paired the dress with black leggings and chocolate brown boots.

Below are a few photos from our decorating session (shout out to my love and his sister for making the awesome Christmas tree) and a promo code for 20% off your next purchase at maurices.com

ASOS Blogger Secret Santa

It's been ages since I've participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange. So I was extra excited to be a part of ASOS' Blogger Secret Santa this year. Last month I sent them my sizes and style preferences. That info was sent to another blogger so they could select items for me on asos.com. I was assigned Tiffany from Fat Shopaholic. I e-met Tiffany during the early plus size fashion blogging days in 2010. I still remember the first outfit I saw on her blog. It was a bright, bold floral dress with combat boots. Her style was, and still is, unapologetic. I just love that about her.

Gina from Pink Wings is my Secret Santa. Her blog is so chic and cute! I love the pieces she selected for me. She picked an ASOS Curve black swing dress with lace sleeves and ALDO earrings. I’m not one for big earrings---I normally wear studs---however these are too glam and sparkly not to adore. Unfortunately the swing dress is running low in stock. Similar options are here, herehere, and here. FYI: ASOS Curve dresses, especially when made from jersey, run large. I wear a US 24 in anything Curve.

I can't wait to wear this outfit again. Maybe I'll wear it for NYE with a statement or long pendant necklace. Do you have your Christmas or New Year's Eve outfit ready? How are your holidays going? I hope you're enjoying these special moments with family and friends. See you soon and Merry Christmas!

Catherines Lookbook

Hey, everyone! Long time, no see. I hope 2016 is off to a great start for you! January has been a whirlwind. It feels great to be back at my desk with a hot cup of tea, working on new posts for February. My first post of the month is special collab with Catherines. We teamed up to share three different looks ranging from daytime to cocktail party to glam. I love them and hope you do, too! Which outfit is your favorite? Share in a comment below.

One of my all-time favorite outfits to wear is a good pair of jeans, t-shirt, and flats. This first look is an elevated version of that. The melon blouse is a dressier option to my typical cotton tee. It still has all of the comfort and stretch, plus a flowy silhouette. The girlfriend jean is my fave pair of jeans from Catherines. The jean is available in petite (shout out to my fellow 5’4” and under girls) with a relaxed fit through the thighs and legs and zero gaping in the waist. I tied the look together with a gold bib necklace, melon and gold bracelet, and extremely comfortable tan wedges. Seriously. They are probably the comfiest pair of wedges I have ever worn in my life. And they’re in wide width. Score.

My second look is something I would wear to a cocktail party or even a date night with my BF. The shift dress features a chevron stripe pattern and a flirty cut out on the chest. I usually stay away from bold patterns---I'm more of a solid color kinda gal---but this dress caught my eye. Catherines did a great job in adding modern elements to a classic shift dress. I love all the colors and stripes, and the overall vibe of the dress. I'm wearing a 3X and it fits like a dream. The sleeves are roomy, the stomach area isn't clingy, and the length is youthful. #fatgirlscanwearstripes

My last look was a big risk for me. I wanted to step out of my style bubble and try a glam look. Y'all know me; my looks are soft, romantic, and/or casual-chic. This outfit is not that. Well, it's romantic, but not in the way I usually do it. The long skirt has the most incredible shape to it. It twirls with each step, which made me feel ultra glamorous. I paired the skirt with a button down shirt. Instead of tucking it into the skirt, I tied it below my bust to accentuate my waist. I'm a big fan of rolling up/ruching sleeves, so I did that with this one and added gold tassel necklace for a little pop of color.

GenBeauty LA 2016

It feels like just yesterday I was in LA with the squad oohing and ahhing over makeup. In reality, it's been almost a month, but I still remember every detail of my GenBeauty weekend. I arrived in LA on a Thursday and immediately went out for tacos with Crystal and Marisa. The next day we shopped from morning to evening at Morphe Brushes and Glendale Galleria. A few shopping bags and a new pair of Chucks later, we made it back home with enough time to get ready for ipsy’s cocktail party. Imagine a studio filled with beauty creators, music, and drinks, lots and lots of drinks. It was a blast. Unfortunately we didn’t arrive in time to get the famous ipsy Generation Beauty swag bag. But, I’m not complaining because we still received great gift bags over the weekend.

Generation Beauty is a two day event produced by ipsy. Beauty/fashion creators and lovers unite in Downtown LA to have fun, network, and experience makeup, hair, and skincare brands. Major brands and cult favorites set up shop to talk about their company, give demos of featured products, provide samples and sales, and host meetups with today’s top beauty YouTubers/Instagrammers. Get a better feel for the event by watching my vlog at the end of this post.

I had such a great time with my friends the entire weekend. It was wonderful experiencing these brands on another level and meeting some of my subscribers. Thanks for coming up to me to say hi and chat amid all the craziness! GenBeauty was an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to do it again!

Date Night Dress

My BF and I celebrated our anniversary at a fancy bistro last month. I had no idea what to wear until I saw this cute striped dress from Society+. The marsala color is striking and the material is stretchy. I'm not a fan of scuba, but this fabric was ultra soft and flexible. It contoured to my shape without being clingy and bothersome.

I love how the skirt gently flows over my butt. It gives my hips a little oomph! and shows off my legs. I passed on wearing any bold accessories since the dress is clearly the star of the outfit. I paired it with my everyday heart necklace, Catherines deep tan wedges, Louis monogram clutch, and OFRA's liquid lipstick in "Havana Nights."
