Why I Wear All Black

In my teens and early twenties, I wore all black to hide my body. One of my favorite outfits was a black Adidas jacket, black tank, and black velour sweatpants. It was 2005; velour was everywhere. Now I wear the dark hue because of its empowering, minimal, classic, and casual-chic vibes.

I was inspired to try this look after visiting my friend Denise in LA. She looked so chic in her black tee, jeans, white shoes, and red scarf. My tee is from Lane Bryant. It's soft, but I wish it was a little bit longer. The jeans are by ASOS Curve. I love them! I'm wearing a US size 24 that fits well around my hips and butt. They're regular length, so I rolled up the hems to make them shorter. I topped off the look with white Chucks, black sunglasses, and velvety matte lavender lipstick.

This outfit is quickly becoming a go-to look for me. I wear it because I enjoy the theme, not because I'm trying to make my body invisible. Don't get me wrong, I still have my moments where I struggle with embracing my body, especially my stomach, but they are easier to overcome with a lot of self acceptance, patience, and positivity.

Simply Be Denim Review #ShowUsYourSass

I was amazed when I tried on these jeans. Jeans never fit over my belly button. As an apple shaped girl with a protruding stomach, I grew accustomed to the defeat. Though I love and accept myself, I often struggle with this part of my body. It’s picked on the most by the Internet and sometimes myself. It’s not flat and smooth like other plus size women. This comparison and self acceptance is something I work on everyday.

Having never experienced this type of outfit before, I was overwhelmed with joy as I cautiously zipped the denim over my belly button and the largest part of my stomach. To tuck my button down shirt inside of the jeans was even more overwhelming. I gained fashion freedom. I felt that freedom when I wore a crop top for the first time. I felt it when I wore a bodycon dress without shapewear. I felt it when I stopped worrying so much about my VBO (visible belly outline). And I felt it again when I wore these jeans.

The Hollie Girlfriend Jeans are from Simply Be’s new denim collection. The mid-rise jeans are a relaxed fit with all day comfort and perfectly placed rips and patches. Though they slightly loosen in the thigh throughout the day, I recommend ordering them in your usual size. Available in sizes 8 - 28, the jeans come in a light and dark wash and regular and long length. I’m wearing the dark wash, regular length, in a size 26.

Thank you to Simply Be for sending the denim for review. I am so glad I gave this style a try. It brought me so much happiness and confidence. The power of fashion is so real!

Saturday Vibes

I love Saturdays. I love them even more when I wear something that's cute, relaxed, and a little bit chic. I purchased this swing dress at Charlotte Russe last month when I filmed an Inside the Dressing Room. I love the thin stripes (#fatgirlscanwearstripes) and black and white color combination. Since the sleeves are long, I ruched them up to my elbow so I wouldn't look too boxy. Unfortunately this dress is sold out online, but it still might be available in store. Similar styles are linked below.

Normally I would wear this dress with flats, but I changed it up by pairing it with white sneakers. I like the sporty/preppy vibes it adds to the dress. Throw on some red lipstick (Sephora's lip stains are the bomb), grab a large handbag, and you're ready to celebrate the weekend in effortless style.

Hey loves! Long time, no post. My bad. I unintentionally took a break from blogging last month. I was in a slump that was hard to break. I'm still dealing with the loss of my boyfriend's mom. I never mentioned it here, though I talked about it on my youtube channel. She passed away in November from pancreatic cancer. To say we were all devastated is an understatement. We were very close and I loved her so much. Since her passing, I sometimes find filming to be challenging and almost overwhelming. It's much easier to say nothing and pose for a picture. However this past month I could not muster an ounce of energy to take a proper outfit photo. It wasn't until the end of the month, after a talk with my boyfriend, that I felt like shooting again. Grieving is a bitch and a roller coaster of emotions. Forgive me for being inconsistent. I promise to do better for me, for you, and for Elaine.

She loved the whole blogging-youtube thing. She enjoyed watching my vlogs and seeing the outfits I posted on my facebook page. She would have liked this outfit, too. A classic fit and flare dress with a pop of pink. It's even available in her favorite color green. I take that as a little sign that she's still here watching over us and smiling from up above.

Body Positivity: It's about embracing and accepting yourself for who you are in the present. It's all sizes, shapes, and colors. It's unapologetic. It's self love and care. It's a beautiful thing.

I was really happy to find out JCPenney is diving into the world of bopo. They recently launched their new Boutique+ line specifically designed for women with curves. The new styles are affordable and available in a great range of sizes (0x - 4x and 16W - 30W).

To celebrate the line and encourage self love, they created an amazing video, featuring some of your faves, centered around body positivity and confidence. I am so happy to share this video with you. I've already watched #HereIAm about ten times. I was completely moved when I first saw it. There were tears. There were smiles. It left me feeling empowered, beautiful, and inspired to live life, not just exist in it.

I hope you like the video as much as I did. Did you get all the feels after watching it? Let me know in a comment below!

90s Realness

Hey, loves! I hope you’re having a great summer. I've been on the go the last few months. At the beginning of the year, I promised myself I would say yes to more traveling. I'm proud of myself for sticking to that promise! I’ll have more deets about my trips throughout the next couple weeks here on my blog. But first, I want to share this cute and casual look I wore during my downtime between NYC and LA.

I have to admit I was hesitant to try on this Deb Shops dress because I’m not familiar with their sizing. I’m glad I gave it a shot. It fits with plenty of room to spare. The 3X fit and flare dress has stretch, comfort, and flirty, fun movement in the skirt. I feel like I’m channeling my inner 90s girl when I'm wearing it. The ribbed detailing, high neckline, and sweet and easy-going vibes are throwback goals. I paired the dress with big round sunglasses, a rose gold watch, and white chucks to complete the 90s realness.

Wine Country with Catherines

A few weeks ago I took a beautiful trip to Sonoma County courtesy of Catherines. Chastity from GarnerStyle, Rachel from Lovely In LA, the Catherines team, and I spent a few days exploring Wine Country from sun up to sun down. To say this area of NorCal is beautiful is an understatement. The endless rows of vineyards, fresh air, and stunning sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. Being in the company of these awe-inspiring women didn't hurt either. We stayed at the charming Farmhouse Inn in Forestville. After settling into our rooms, we traveled to Healdsburg for lunch at Shed.

After lunch, I explored the nearby garden in the Soft Sunset Maxi. They weren’t lying when they said this dress is soft. It is one of the smoothest and coziest knits out there. I usually don’t do tie-dye, but the coral hues won me over. The best part of this dress: it comes in petite! This dress is just the right length for my 5’4” and under babes. It hits at the ankle and does not drag on the floor.

We took a dip in the pool and hot tub as soon as we came back to the Farmhouse. I loved the Bold Burst Swimsuit. Normally I would wear a 26 in swimwear, but this suit was only available up to a 24. Luckily the 24 was a great fit. It had molded cups for support and blue and white rays bursting from one side to the other. So chic!

Up before the sun rose the next morning, we did something I have dreamt of doing since I was a little girl --- a hot air balloon ride! It was incredible. The ride was completely smooth and not rocky as one would imagine. With the sun shining on our faces, we had perfect views of the valley and mountains. I felt nothing but serenity and happiness while up in the air.

A casual-sporty look was perfect for this adventure. The Mulberry Street Buttonfront Shirt, available in petite, was one of my favorite pieces to wear throughout the trip. It was ultra comfortable and lightweight with a relaxed fit. I paired the shirt with the red Ripstop Capri Pant (a fashion first for me!) and tortoise Sleek Style Sunglasses. Side note: Shout out to Chastity for teaching me how to half tuck my shirts.

Later that afternoon we visited the Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate for a food and wine pairing. The white wines were my favorite. The pork belly slider and caramel corn were a close second. I wanted to glam it up, so I wore the royal blue Night Music Dress and red lipstick. I was digging the embellished neckline. It sparkled like crazy and took all the hard work out of accessorizing.

Thank you to Catherines and Kellie B. for taking me on this amazing adventure. I will never forget it!

Subscribe to my YouTube channel for more about this trip! My travel vlog will be up on Sunday. Have a great weekend, loves!

Hello, Hello Kitty!

Can you believe this is my first time wearing something with Hello Kitty? As iconic as she is, I've never been into her as much as my friends. Growing up, I was a fan of Sanrio's Keroppi the frog. I still remember wearing my mini green Keroppi backpack to a Six Flags field trip in grade school. Good times!

Ok, back to Hello Kitty. This tulle skirt is adorable! There are two layers with a Hello Kitty floral print. The underlay is a cozy black knit and the overlay is tulle. Add to that a stretchy waistband for fit and comfort, and you have a cute as a button, whimsical skirt.

As soon as I received the skirt, I knew an off the shoulder top would be the perfect compliment to it. Unfortunately the one I ordered from Modcloth hadn't arrived in time, so I improvised! I tucked a ruffled off shoulder dress, also from Torrid, into the skirt to get a similar look. I'm so glad it worked out! I love the romantic vibes of both pieces put together.

Pieces from the Torrid Hello Kitty limited edition collection are still available. Grab them while you can if you're a big HK fan!

Hi loves! I'm so excited to host this Dia&Co. giveaway. It's happening on Instagram, but I wanted to share here in case you miss the post—thanks, new IG algorithm. :| So what's the prize? It's a free Dia box styled just for you!

Dia&Co. is a personal styling service for plus sizes 14 and up. It's seriously one of the most effortless ways to shop. Take a style quiz, receive a box at your door filled with hand-selected pieces from a stylist, buy the items you love and send the rest back.  Easy peasy.

This is the second time I have received a box. Just like the first time, my stylist gets me! She sent this stripe tee for fall that I paired with a denim jacket and red lipstick. The more I play with fashion, the more I realize my style is definitely more classic Americana. I felt so in my element in this outfit. You know that feeling? When you're wearing something that makes you feel so good, so you. There is a confidence and happiness that radiates from within. It's a powerful, exhilarating feeling.

I hope you like this look and enter the giveaway. Head over to my Instagram (@amanda_allison) for all the deets. Good luck! <3

Pops of Pink

This contrast collar blouse is another great piece from my Dia&Co. box. I wore it for a day filled with meetings in Downtown Fresno and the Tower District. For the last few months, I have lived in the same uniform: tee + leggings/jeans, chambray + leggings, or dress + sneakers. Wearing this top was a nice change of pace.

The non-stretch material fit well across my upper body, especially around my stomach and upper arms. The true-to-size blouse is tunic length so I wore it over cropped leggings. It could easily be tucked into a skirt or jeans for a dressy-casual look. I love the bright pink collar, too! It inspired me to pair the top with my pink flats. The two are a match made in fashion heaven.

Click here to save 50% off your first styled box through 10/31.
Don't forget to enter my Instagram giveaway to win a free box; it ends tonight!
